Who are we?

The Yakima Valley Mushroom Society was founded in the fall of 2010. The purpose of YVMS is to foster the understanding of mycology as a science and a hobby, and to assist related institutions in these purposes. The society represents a variety of interests in fungi: the weekend naturalist, the pot hunter, the adventurous gourmet, the amateur hunter, photographer, as well as the professional mycologist. YVMS is open to all persons regardless of race, religion, age, sex, or handicap.

Membership meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month (except for January, June, July, August and December) at 7:00 PM in theYakima Area Arboretum's Jewett Interpretive Center. Mushrooms can be brought to these meetings for identification and often time is set aside for refreshments and social networking.

YVMS is a volunteer organization with no paid positions. Members are asked to contribute time and effort in helping the society fulfill its mission. Dues are set by the board at a level that covers the essential costs for running the society. Book sales, beginner/advanced mushroom classes, future exhibits and other creative methods are employed to raise additional needed funds.

Education is the main focus of the society. Opportunities to learn come through classes, field trips, forays, membership meetings, and future events. Members are generous and supportive of the eager new member in their quest for knowledge about mushrooms.

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU AT OUR NEXT MEETING!
